Paint has begun. And yes, it’s “Tremclad and a Roller.”

I’ve been using Pro/Engineer in my Drafting classes for about 7 years now. The “Educational” version of Pro/Engineer Wildfire 5 is somewhat stripped down, and while Carnegie Mellon University had a sweet set of tutorials which I have adapted and updated for ~our~ version of Wildfire, it cannot do Surface Modeling.
With a recent computer update at our school, we had the opportunity to purchase the AutoDesk Design Suite (AutoCAD, Inventor, Revit, etc.), which has taken some learning but is very impressive.
I finished re-writing the CMU tutorials for Inventor 2013 and may upload them here shortly. IN the mean-time, I was finally able to do some Surface Modeling, by creating a tutorial off of this video here. Cool!
For the HEI on the Crusty Chevy. Currently running 20° base timing, 14° mechanical advance, 12° vacuum advance. Once this is solid, I will change the power piston spring in the carb to stay closed at idle in gear (previously idling at 6inHg in drive).

Just time consuming.
Completed all the tweaks, got it back together, and got it running. Needs more Idle Bypass Air, so it has to come off again – but that’s easy. Just time consuming.

Rochester Quadrajets are notorious for worn throttle shaft bushings, which result in tuning difficulties, among other things.
I found some 5/16″ ID, 3/8″ OD bushings are my local auto parts store ($2). I machined a cutter from 3/8″ rod which I turned down to 5/16″ long enough to pilot the center bushing in the baseplate. I used a Zip Disc to cut flutes and back rake. I tested it briefly, but chickened out and just milled the bushings with a 3/8″ end mill.
I will likely test the cutter out on another Rochester I don’t value as much…..
Tomorrow, working through Cliff Ruggles’ book: “How to Rebuild and Modify Rochester Carburetors.”

One of the two last patches for the Old Chevy. The only two patches I bought, since the compound curves are still developing in my skill set.
I hate bodywork.
