Inspired by The Fabrication Series “Cheap DIY Downdraft Grinding Table”, I designed and built my own.

Design requirements:
- “Bench” so I can sit at it and weld there
- Two common 21.5″ box fans
- Two common 20×20 furnace filters
- Easily replaceable filters
- Locking casters so I can move it
- Raised back to catch debris
- Ducting to funnel debris to bottom
- Flip-down sides for longer material
- “Trap Door” or “Drawer” on the bottom to remove debris
- Outlet for grinders
- Rubber mat to “hold” material
It wasn’t that cheap, but I used a lot of new materials instead of scrap. We’re around $800CDN (2026), which I guess is pretty much the same cost as The Fabrication Series table (2019).
