Attacking the rearward tubes on the Lotus Seven

De-Chroming with Muriatic Acid
I needed some flat steel to transition from the 1″ wheel archs on the Lotus 7 chassis to the 3/4″ tubes behind the seat back bulkhead. I thought “washers would work great” only, you really shouldn’t weld chrome.
An hour immersed in Muriatic Acid, and now they are de-chromed.
I wonder if the acid might be a bad thing when welding….

This was SO not fun to make.

The Terrible Trailer
I know, it’s not a “Project Car” per se.
But it was finally completed, and performed flawlessley on its maiden voyage to the dump today.

Lotus Chassis Setbacks & Progress
I had to give my head a shake on what I was doing with the chassis. Offset the drivetrain 1″? What was I thinking? I cut out the entire transmission tunnel and seat back bulkhead, centered it, and got it mostly all back together this evening. Stupid me – I’ll just get the driver’s axle shortened 2″ and all will be well.
At least now, the seats will fit, like, humans.

Lotus 7 Tranny Tunnel
I’ve been working on the transmission tunnel for the Lotus 7 clone (based initially on Pat Prince drawings circa 1981).
I’m using a 240SX transmission that I will be adapting to a Ford Duratec 2.0L.
This isn’t your typical tubing layout. It makes sense in my head, and it’s coming together alright….
