As we pack in anticipation of moving to the new school over Christmas, we're trying to do the
best we can with what we have available. The new shop is smaller, but much cleaner, nicer and
newer. I am really looking forward to the new school!
Art Metal students are finishing their polished aluminum keyfob/pendant and are working on the stone setting now. Some students who are ahead are now working on the next project, making a 2-D "sculpture" expressing a mood or feeling.
Power Mechanics students are finishing their engines, and getting into the design of their C02 Dragsters to finish off the end of the semester. I'm trying to locate the timing devices, but I may end up making my own.
Auto Mechanics students are still learning the various parts of the car, and how to inspect the components through a series of labs.
Electronics students are doing well, Level 1 are finishing the 4011 Astable circuit, Level 2 are finishing up the FMT, and Level 3 are finishing up the Power Spply rectifier circuit.
Battle Bots is receiving more attention this year, as we try to refine the rules and develop an inter-school competition in the district. We're hoping this will work out well, I don't think it's been done before here in Kelowna!
My Autocross Club is off and running, a number of students have become interested and we will start in January planning for the season. This month we met with parents and discussed legal issues and liabilities. January we will look at the safety inspection and possibly car set-up. The season should start in March 2002.
Not much new with the Sentra this month. No work done to it except slap on some Kumho KW700 winter tires on the factory steel wheels. The car looks so benign now.
I was voted "Competitor of the Year" by the members of my club, the Burnaby Coquitlam Motorsports Association. Very flattering!
I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone of the BCMA for helping me out this year - answering my questions, helping me improve, giving me pointers, and everything. I could not have done so well this year if it weren't for the help of (sorry, I won't post last names) Campbell, Diane, Thomas, Roberta, Rob, Sheridan, Oliver, Randy, Scott, Tony, Robert, Mark T, Mark P, Ron, Todd, Chris, Adrian, Ashwin and anyone else whose name I've forgotten. This is more to me a celebration of your "family" atmosphere and camaraderie that made this sport so wonderful - I miss you folks a lot way up here in Kelowna, but I'll still be coming down for "Events Formerly Known as Regionals!" Thanks so much you guys! You guys are the best!
